Discuss the qualities of a good borrower

A good borrower is one a bank can safely lend to. The bank must be confident that the loan will be repaid fully and on time. The following qualities define a good borrower:

Creditworthiness

A good borrower has a strong credit history. He has a stable income, adequate net worth, and liquid assets. Banks always prefer borrowers with a proven repayment record.

Building Trust Gradually

A good borrower starts with a small loan. He builds the relationship with the lender step by step. Trust and confidence are earned over time — not demanded at once.

Money Management Skills

A good borrower knows his own cash flows clearly. He lives within his means. He maintains timely and accurate financial records at all times.

Integrity

A good borrower keeps his word. If he borrows a certain amount, he repays it on schedule. He does not make excuses or delay payments.

Prudence

A good borrower never over-borrows. He borrows only what he can comfortably repay. He keeps track of all his existing liabilities before taking a new loan.

Purposeful Spending

A good borrower uses borrowed money only for the sanctioned purpose. Proper use of funds generates returns. Those returns are the source of loan repayment.

Borrows Only When Needed

A good borrower does not borrow out of habit or temptation. He refuses loan offers if he does not genuinely need the funds. Unnecessary borrowing creates unnecessary risk.

Makes Payments on Time

A good borrower repays on schedule without reminders. Timely repayment reflects reliability. It also builds a strong credit record for future borrowing.
