Financial literacy means the ability to understand and manage personal financial matters effectively. It includes knowledge of budgeting, saving, investing, banking, and using credit wisely. Financial literacy helps individuals make informed decisions, avoid debt problems, and improve financial stability. It is important for economic development and personal financial security.
(b) Half Note
A half note (in banking/accounting context often called a “half-yearly note” or informal term depending on syllabus) generally refers to a note or report prepared for six months. In banking, it may relate to semi-annual financial statements or interest calculations done every six months. It helps in periodic assessment of financial performance.
(c) Stale Cheque
A stale cheque is a cheque that has not been presented for payment within a certain valid period, usually 6 months from the date of issue. After this period, the cheque becomes invalid and the bank will not honour it unless revalidated by the drawer. It is considered outdated for payment purposes.
(d) CDD (Customer Due Diligence)
Customer Due Diligence (CDD) is a process used by banks to verify the identity of customers and assess risks before providing services. It involves collecting customer information, verifying identity documents, and monitoring transactions. CDD helps prevent money laundering, fraud, and terrorist financing. It is a key part of AML (Anti-Money Laundering) compliance.
(e) Lease Finance
Lease finance is a type of financing where a bank or leasing company allows a client to use an asset for a fixed period in exchange for regular payments. Ownership remains with the lessor, while the lessee uses the asset. At the end of the lease period, ownership may be transferred or the asset returned. It is widely used for machinery, vehicles, and equipment.
(f) Minor Account
A minor account is a bank account opened in the name of a person under 18 years of age. It is operated by a guardian until the minor becomes legally adult. Banks allow limited transactions for safety. It helps minors develop saving habits and financial awareness.
