Business Communication in Financial Institutions 99th BPE: Short Notes
(a) ESDD and Sustainable Finance
Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) is a process used by banks to identify and assess environmental and social risks before approving a loan or investment. It examines issues such as pollution, labour rights, community impact, workplace safety, and environmental protection. This helps banks avoid financing harmful projects.
Sustainable Finance means making financial decisions by considering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. It encourages banks to support green and socially responsible projects. In Bangladesh, banks promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate-friendly businesses under Bangladesh Bank’s Sustainable Finance Policy.
ESDD supports sustainable finance by ensuring that financed projects follow responsible business practices. It also reduces environmental and social risks for banks. Together, ESDD and sustainable finance promote responsible banking and long-term sustainable development.
(b) Cyber Security and Cyber Crime
Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computers, networks, and digital information from unauthorized access or attacks. Banks use firewalls, encryption, multi-factor authentication, and regular security monitoring to keep customer information safe. Strong cyber security protects both the bank and its customers.
Cybercrime refers to crimes committed through computers or the internet. Common examples are hacking, phishing, ransomware, identity theft, and online financial fraud. These crimes can cause financial loss and damage a bank’s reputation.
With the growth of digital banking, cybersecurity has become more important than ever. Banks regularly train employees, strengthen security systems, and follow Bangladesh Bank’s ICT security guidelines. Customer awareness also plays an important role in preventing cybercrime.
(c) Infographics
An infographic is a visual way of presenting information by combining text, pictures, charts, and diagrams. It helps people understand complex information quickly and easily. It is more attractive than plain text.
Businesses use infographics to explain products, services, financial information, and business processes. Banks also use them to educate customers about loans, digital banking, and financial literacy. They improve communication with both customers and employees.
An effective infographic should be simple, accurate, and visually appealing. It should present truthful information without misleading the audience. A well-designed infographic improves understanding and makes communication more effective.
(d) Claims and Adjustment Letter
A claims letter is a formal letter written to complain about defective goods, poor service, or delivery problems. It explains the problem clearly and requests a fair solution. The tone should always remain polite and professional.
An adjustment letter is the reply to a claims letter. It explains the organization’s response and informs the customer about the action taken. If the complaint is valid, the organization should apologize and provide a suitable solution.
Both letters help maintain good business relationships. They resolve customer complaints professionally and protect the organization’s reputation. Prompt and courteous communication builds customer trust.
(e) Downward Communication
Downward communication is the flow of information from higher management to lower-level employees. Managers use it to communicate policies, instructions, goals, and important decisions. It ensures that employees understand their responsibilities.
Common methods of downward communication include meetings, emails, memos, circulars, and notices. Managers should provide accurate information and choose the most suitable communication method. Employees should also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Effective downward communication improves coordination and reduces misunderstandings. It helps employees perform their duties correctly and supports the achievement of organizational goals. It also strengthens communication between management and staff.
(f) Teamwork
Teamwork means people working together to achieve a common goal. Each team member contributes their knowledge, skills, and experience. Good teamwork helps complete difficult tasks more effectively.
An effective team has clear goals, open communication, mutual trust, and active participation. Members respect each other’s opinions and work together to solve problems. They focus on achieving shared objectives instead of personal interests.
Teamwork improves productivity, creativity, and decision-making. It also strengthens cooperation among employees and creates a positive work environment. In banks, teamwork is essential for providing quality customer service and achieving organizational success. (a) ESDD and Sustainable Finance
