Business Communication in Financial Institutions 6th BPE: Short Notes

(a) Digital Detox

Digital detox is a planned break from digital devices such as smartphones, computers, and social media. It helps people reduce screen time and improve their physical and mental well-being.

The main goal is to create a healthy balance between digital and real-life activities.

In today’s workplace, employees spend long hours using emails, video meetings, and messaging apps. Excessive screen time can cause stress, mental fatigue, poor sleep, and lower productivity.

Many organizations encourage regular breaks and limit after-work communication to support employee well-being.

Digital detox also improves business communication. It encourages face-to-face interaction, active listening, and better interpersonal skills.

For banking professionals, it helps reduce burnout and improves communication with clients and colleagues.

(b) Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is a method of raising money from a large number of people, usually through online platforms.

Instead of depending on one investor or bank loan, small contributions are collected from many individuals. It is widely used to finance businesses, projects, and social causes.

There are different types of crowdfunding, such as donation-based, reward-based, equity-based, and debt-based crowdfunding.

It is especially useful for startups and small businesses that may not qualify for traditional bank financing. A successful campaign depends on clear communication and public trust.

Crowdfunding is gradually becoming popular in Bangladesh. It provides an alternative source of finance for entrepreneurs and social initiatives.

As digital finance continues to grow, crowdfunding is expected to play a greater role in supporting innovation and small businesses.

(c) Blockchain Technology

Blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger that records transactions securely across many computers.

Each transaction is stored in a block, and the blocks are connected to form a chain. This makes the data transparent, secure, and very difficult to change.

Blockchain has many applications in banking and finance. It supports faster cross-border payments, trade finance, and digital transactions.

It is also the technology behind cryptocurrencies and smart contracts, which automate agreements without intermediaries.

Despite its benefits, blockchain has some challenges. These include regulatory concerns, scalability issues, and the misuse of cryptocurrencies for illegal activities.

As the technology develops, blockchain is expected to play an important role in modern banking.

(d) Infographics

An infographic is a visual tool that presents information by combining text, pictures, charts, and diagrams.

It helps explain facts and ideas simply and attractively. It is useful for presenting complex information quickly and clearly.

Infographics are widely used in business communication. They help explain processes, compare data, and present reports in an easy-to-understand format.

In banking, they are used for financial literacy, loan procedures, annual reports, and regulatory information.

A good infographic must be accurate, honest, and well-designed. Facts and statistics should never be distorted or misrepresented.

Properly designed infographics improve understanding and make communication more effective.

(e) Global Village

The term Global Village was introduced by Marshall McLuhan. It describes a world where modern communication technology has connected people across countries.

The internet and digital communication have made the world more closely connected than ever before.

The global village has changed the way businesses operate. Organizations can communicate instantly with customers, suppliers, and employees around the world.

This has encouraged international trade, global business partnerships, and remote working.

For banks, the global village supports international banking, foreign trade, and cross-border financial services.

Banking professionals need strong communication skills and cultural awareness. Effective global communication is essential for success in today’s business world.

(f) Emotional Quotient (EQ)

Emotional Quotient (EQ), also called emotional intelligence, is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions.

It includes understanding both our own emotions and the emotions of others. EQ helps people communicate and build positive relationships.

A person with high EQ remains calm under pressure and handles conflicts wisely. They listen carefully, show empathy, and communicate respectfully.

In banking, EQ helps employees deal with customers, solve problems, and maintain long-term professional relationships.

EQ also improves non-verbal communication. People with high emotional intelligence understand facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice more effectively.

Developing EQ helps banking professionals become better communicators, leaders, and team members.
