Define Communication. Why Effective Communication is Critical for Team and Department Coordination?
What is Communication?
Communication means to transfer information from one place to another, from one person to another, or to multiple people, from a group of people to another. Every form of communication requires a sender, a message, and at least one receiver.
When a person is speaking, he or she is the sender. The speech or words he/she says is the message. The person who is listening to the speech or words is the receiver of the communication.
“Good communication is critical in ensuring coordination of individuals, group and departments of your esteemed organization”
I totally agree with this statement. This is because good communication:
Helps in Sharing Information
Good Communication helps in sharing important messages among individuals, groups, and departments of the organization. All the related parties clearly know their courses of action, and the organization functions smoothly and quickly.
Reduces Misunderstanding and Conflicts
A variety of individuals and groups work in various departments of the organization. Any ambiguity in communication may create conflicts among individuals and groups. Clear communication helps to avoid errors, duplication of work, and conflicts among employees or departments.
Improves Team Work
An organization functions through teamwork. Proper communication ensures cooperation and understanding among team members. Team members can discuss problems, share ideas, and support each other in completing tasks.
Ensures Proper Direction & Control
Management communicates organizational policies, goals, and instructions to the employees on a regular basis. The employees also provide feedback regarding any issues, policies, or changes in the policies. This two-way communication establishes proper direction, discipline, and control in the organization.
Enhances Decision Making
Good communication provides managers with right and timely information. This is essential for effective decision-making. Departments can coordinate their activities and set functional priorities.
Increases Employee Motivation and Morale
When employees are communicated properly, and their opinions are valued, they feel honored and motivated. As a result, they work properly, and the productivity is increased.
Essential for Achieving Organizational Goals
Every department in an organization is interdependent. Effective communication ensures that all departments work in harmony toward common objectives instead of working separately.
