What is an inquiry letter? When is it used?

What is an Inquiry Letter?

An inquiry letter is a formal written message used to request information from an individual, organization, or institution. It is written when a sender needs specific details to make a decision, complete a process, or clarify a matter. The main purpose is to obtain accurate and relevant information in a clear and professional manner.

When is an Inquiry Letter Used?

An inquiry letter is used in different business and banking situations, such as:

• When a bank needs credit-related information about a customer from another bank or Credit Information Bureau (CIB).
• When a bank wants details about a property, business, or service before making a decision.
• When information is required from suppliers, vendors, or government offices to complete official work.
• When customers request information about bank products, services, interest rates, or procedures.
• When organizations request quotations, price lists, or service terms from suppliers.

Conclusion:

An inquiry letter is an important tool of business communication. It helps organizations collect necessary information in a structured and professional way. In banking, it supports decision-making, risk assessment, and smooth operational activities.
