What is Public Speaking?

A presentation delivered in front of a live audience is known as public speaking. It is used to inform, persuade, or entertain an audience.

Public speaking is an important communication skill that helps individuals share ideas, demonstrate knowledge, and influence others.

Although many people feel nervous while speaking in public, proper preparation and practice can significantly reduce this fear and improve performance.

Steps in Effective Public Speaking:

Prepare talking points:

Identify 3–5 key messages and supporting ideas before speaking. Arrange them in a logical order.

Practice the speech:

Rehearse multiple times to become confident with the content. Practice helps reduce nervousness and improve delivery.

Analyze the audience:

Understand who the listeners are, their background, and their expectations. This helps adjust language and tone.

Organize content properly:

Structure the speech with a clear introduction, main points, and conclusion. Start with a strong opening to gain attention.

Use pauses effectively:

Pause at important points instead of using filler words. This helps the audience understand and reflect.

Speak directly to the audience:

Maintain eye contact and avoid reading word-for-word from notes.

Accept feedback positively:

Be open to audience reactions and use feedback to improve future speeches.

Use appropriate gestures:

Use natural hand movements to support your message, but avoid excessive or distracting gestures.

Conclusion:

Public speaking is a vital professional skill that improves communication, confidence, and influence.

In banking and business, it plays a key role in presentations, meetings, and client interactions.
